Creating A Culture of Encounter (9/28)

One of the most urgent challenges before us today is to transform raging superficiality by means of creating a “culture of encounter.”

Materialistic temptations ensnare far too many among us who place their identity in their collection of worldly items or lack of having what they want. Of course, feelings of inadequacy and emptiness transcend the market place as we witness disturbing numbers who relentlessly pursue designing a more desired internet persona.

It is one thing for children to use their fanciful imaginations. It is quite another for adults to pretend and posture in efforts to create a false reality.

Satan is the father of lies (John 8:44). Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). Deception always is the devil’s ploy. Truthfulness, however difficult, always demonstrates the presence of the Holy Spirt, the Lord the Giver of Life.

Let us dare to connect with people directly and personally. Listen carefully to what others are saying, seeking first to understand them before insisting on being understood. Build trusting friendships. These are the characteristics of the culture of encounter which we are called by Christ Jesus to fashion wherever we are – in our homes, at work, at play, in our families of faith.
